Contract and procurement teams learn more together. Ask us about in-house delivery.
Ask about group bookingsClause 03 — Recitals
You may not have read the contract before it was signed.
But you have to make it work.
You are the one whose name is on the file when somebody asks why the supplier has been paid for work they did not do.
Most people who manage government contracts came to it sideways. You were handed a folder, a supplier and a set of dates, and you worked it out. You got good at keeping the relationship steady and the invoices moving. But there is a difference between administering a contract and managing one, and that difference shows up in the places that cost money: the variation that was really a new procurement, the performance regime nobody ever invoked, the extension that lapsed because a notice period was missed by four days.
This masterclass covers everything that happens after signature. It is built for public money and public accountability — the obligations that continue once the procurement team has moved on, the evidence you need on file, and the decisions you are entitled to make when a supplier stops delivering.
No documents required. All exercises run on supplied case-study material, so nothing confidential leaves your agency.
Clause 04 — Term
Everything on this page happens after the ink is dry. Choose a stage to see what the day covers there.
Topic 1 — Who actually owns this contract
The accountability chain from accountable authority to contract manager, and where your delegation really sits.
Clause 05 — Scope of services
For anyone who manages a government contract but has never been formally trained to. No prior legal or procurement qualification assumed. Open a topic to see what it covers and the exercise that goes with it.
ExerciseMap the accountability chain for a supplied case study and identify who is entitled to make which decision.
ExerciseBuild an obligations and key-dates register from a supplied services agreement.
ExerciseAssess a supplied performance report against the contract’s service levels and decide what you would do next.
ExerciseWork through four proposed changes to a supplied contract and decide which can be varied and which cannot.
ExerciseWork through a breach scenario and determine the commercial and contractual response.
ExerciseComplete a close-out checklist against a supplied contract and identify what is missing.
Clause 06 — Default
Three things people reach for. Pick one.
Your move
Only one of them starts by establishing what you are entitled to do. Choose A, B or C to see which part of the day covers it.
Topics 4 and 5
The sequence Topic 5 works through
The sequence that applies to you is the one your own contract sets. Knowing which one that is, and proving you followed it, is the point of the day.
Clause 07 — The facilitator
Principal & Lawyer, iTrain & Consult
With more than 20 years at the helm of award-winning commercial law firms and practice groups, Alan Prasad advises boards, executives and business owners on governance, risk and personal liability. He has worked with organisations across Australia, New Zealand, the UK and the South Pacific, and has advised on both public and private mergers and acquisitions as well as cross-border transactions.
He works extensively with government clients — Commonwealth, state and local — on procurement, contracting and probity, and has advised agencies on the contracts they inherited as well as the ones they wrote.
An entrepreneur in his own right, Alan has founded, bought and sold businesses across FMCG, education and professional services. That first-hand experience of sitting on the other side of the boardroom table is what makes his advice practical and commercially grounded rather than purely theoretical.
